Participation in the "Waste Not Want Not" Challenge

We are the Zajčki group, children aged 4–5, from the Mehurčki Komenda Kindergarten. Throughout the school year, our group has been implementing good practices to reduce food waste and teaching children to treat the environment with respect and responsibility. At mealtimes, we first offer the children smaller portions of food and give them more if necessary. This teaches the children how much food they need so that they don't "eat with their eyes" but listen to their feelings of fullness. We encourage them to wait during the meal, try the food, and only then assess whether they are still hungry. We dry any leftover bread and take it to a nearby farm, where it is used as animal feed, teaching children about responsible handling of food surpluses and the circulation of resources.
