Our school is taking a comprehensive approach to addressing food waste and creating a more sustainable cafeteria environment through several interconnected initiatives.

We began by improving the dining experience itself, installing soundproofing panels throughout most of the cafeteria. This transformation has made mealtimes more pleasant and peaceful, encouraging students to enjoy their meals in a calmer atmosphere. Alongside these physical improvements, we engaged students directly in the food selection process through a survey, giving them a voice in menu planning and fostering a sense of ownership over their meals.

The educational component forms the heart of our challenge. Teachers have received specially designed teaching materials through the EduPage platform, which they're integrating into their regular lessons. These resources help students understand the environmental, economic, and social impacts of food waste, while exploring practical solutions they can implement both at school and at home.

To bring these lessons to life, fifth-grade students will participate in an excursion to an organic farm in Stupava this June. This hands-on experience will allow them to see where food comes from, understand the effort involved in producing it, and make meaningful connections between agricultural practices and their own eating habits.

Together, these activities create a holistic learning experience that combines environmental awareness, student participation, and real-world connections to inspire lasting behavioral change around food waste.
