Shortly describe your project
Two ninth-grade students are addressing food waste in the school cafeteria, collecting data on the popularity of meals, consulting on possible changes, and preparing a workshop and website about their entire journey.
Our goal was to find out why food is wasted in our school cafeteria and to find ways to prevent it. We wanted to get real data from students, involve the cafeteria management, and verify which changes would be feasible. At the same time, we wanted our classmates to realize the value of food and the impact of waste, and for teachers and cooks to start talking more about the issue.
We wanted our project to be more than a one-off event; we wanted it to inspire future generations and contribute to long-term changes in school meals. We wanted to show that even we, as students, can actively change things—by tracking data, communicating with adults, and coming up with suggestions. Part of our plan was also to pass on information to younger children in a playful way and motivate them to be more responsible about food.
