Shortly describe your project
We invited parents to lunch in the school cafeteria so they could see, smell, and taste the food their children eat. Parents are now lining up for food after years, enjoying the event and coming back.
Over the past few years, we have conducted research into why children don't eat and throw away food. There are several basic reasons. Some can be easily influenced, others more difficult. Among the more difficult to influence are the influence of parents and family background. Parents' ideas about what their children should eat often differ from what they actually eat (or throw away). At school, we have a choice of three meals, one of which is always vegetarian. We urge parents to order meals together with their children and let them make the decisions.
By inviting parents to lunch, we hope to increase their involvement in preventing food waste. We believe that by seeing how we work and tasting our delicious food, we will have their support in matters of nutrition and other topics. We believe that when they become part of the issue, they will take a greater interest. With every lunch, we present or promote something. For example, the local origin of food or legumes as a source of protein. The information is on the menu, on nearby bulletin boards, or communicated by the staff.
