Shortly describe your project
Recycling, upcycling – sustainability in everyday life
As part of the interdisciplinary school project “WIN,” groups from grades 3F and 3G are developing products in “Technology and Design” with a focus on sustainability. The aim is to develop resource-saving strategies and to transform waste materials into new contexts of use through conscious recycling. Experimental surface design plays a central role in this process.
One focus of the project is to recycle plastic waste by crocheting and welding it. Plastic packaging is collected, cleaned, cut to size, and then crocheted. Additional welding creates stable, resilient structures with their own aesthetic quality. Old textiles are also crocheted, creating new material combinations that are both functional and aesthetically appealing.
These processes result in products such as bowls, coasters, and trays that are versatile in their use. In addition, Tetra Pak is made workable using a special technique and then sewn into containers. This creates dimensionally stable vessels with a characteristic surface and individual material effect. The finished objects are used for a buffet at the school.
The project illustrates how sustainable thinking, craft techniques, and design processes can be combined. It shows that functional and aesthetically appealing products can be created from what is considered waste material. The project is not only an important contribution to environmental protection, but also a great experience for everyone involved.
Numerous new insights were gained in the course of the project. Creativity and teamwork were successfully demonstrated, with the joy of working together also playing an important role. The results achieved are considered a success and the project is seen as a significant step in a sustainable and future-oriented direction.
