On Slovenian Zero Food Waste Day 2025, which took place on April 24, 2025, we devoted class time to this important issue. We spoke with 5th and 7th grade students about food waste: what it is and how it occurs. We examined a poster featuring nine tips for working together against food waste, prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. We also used educational materials titled "How to Reduce Food Waste in Everyday Life" from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food and the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia.

Following a group discussion, students divided into teams of four and used the "placemat" technique to reflect on food waste. Each student wrote their thoughts on the topic in their designated section of the form, and then the group summarized their ideas in a collective statement. The teams presented their findings and created posters about the content, which they illustrated and decorated with symbolic drawings.
