The best waste is no waste, concluded the students of the elective subject Experiments in Chemistry. Our goal was to figure out how to start reducing waste. We focused on the waste generated in the school kitchen, where meals (breakfast, snack, lunch, afternoon snack) are prepared for 100 school children, 50 kindergarten children, and adults. We conducted an annual and weekly inventory, which showed us the amount of waste generated at the school. We called it 'A Week in Waste'. They came to some interesting conclusions and prepared a draft plan for waste reduction, which will serve us in the future in our planned waste reduction at the school.
